I’m not sure how closely EZD2 compares to SD3. As I noted, my initial question was regarding how running SD3 VST (not EZD2) compares to the Pearl Mimic Pro’s native SSD sounds. Now, let’s muddy the waters here a bit with another question I have for you if you please. Hope not to offend anyone here – just my 2-cents. I’m a firm believer in “If it works don’t fix it”, so for now I’m going to stick with my Mimic and pass on EZDrummer and probably Superior Drummer. Now this is coming from someone who is somewhat bias toward the Mimic and quite pleased with it so that certainly plays into my review. For the extra hassle of adding a computer, software, hardware, learning curve, etc., I just don’t think it’s that much of an improvement.

  • In conclusion - I’m not at all disappointed with EZD2 and actually quite impressed, just not blown away compared to Mimic’s native SSD sounds.

I am running a laptop PC (i7, 8GB RAM, SSD card, Focusrite 2i2 AI w/buffer=64). I’m noticing a slight increase in latency – I assume that’s to be expected.EZD2 sounds are very good and quite impressive but IMO not “appreciably” better than SSD.which did help so maybe I just need to be more diligent here. I did change some Mimic threshold settings etc. I’m noticing considerably more “hot spotting”.Initially numerous pads still triggered the wrong instrument but at least when I change the MIDI note as EZD recommended it worked much better. So I changed the mapping module to Roland – it worked much better. When I attempted change the MIDI note as recommended by EZD it still triggered incorrectly (i.e., a tom sounded as a crash, etc.). Originally I selected “Other” as my module but I encounter a problem where numerous pads triggered the wrong instrument.

  • No Mimic Pro MIDI mapping module available.
  • I’m sure there is much more fine tuning available but for now, here are a few things I noticed. Please note, after getting all up and running I have only played with this for a few hours so my comments by no means are a definitive take. EZD was more of a challenge maybe this was a function of the module differences – I don’t know. I am in no manner VST proficient but in the past I have installed Addictive Drums2 and BFD-Eco with my Roland TD-15.

Since SD3 does not have a “demo” version in an effort to “test” this I downloaded EZDrummer2 in hopes that it would be close to SD3 albeit it not an exact representation.Īfter a bit of a convoluted effort I was finally able to install and configure EZD2 with my Pearl Mimic Pro module.

I’ve heard/read that Superior Drummer 3 is much more realistic sounding than Steven Slate Drums. Not sure if you are interested in the opinion of a true layperson – if so, please read on.
